Maybe? I could have sworn that we have passed each other frequently. Anyway, you look good! Well, from what I remember, I mean. Not that you didn’t then, though! If that was even you… which… man, I really thought I knew you from somewhere.
Well now that we’re no longer strangers, I’ve got something to give you. It’s part of what’s been taking up so much of my time, lately. These are the demos I’ve done so far for this year’s RPM challenge.
I’ve been thinking a lot about mortality lately. I feel such a life within myself, handed down by generations of ancestors; yet in order to grow, I’ve been taught to look towards the future. How can I depend on something that hasn’t even existed yet, and why should I just ignore thousands of years of cultural anthropology?
I prefer to think of the past as receding before me, with the future sneaking up from behind.
So in these songs, there are several references; to time, the ancient, the future, eternity, and where the thread of my life is woven among those strands.
“Down Through The Ages” – Cool and steady slow burn:

“Victor Omega” - Buddy Holly playing ska while tripping on acid:

“Oracle” – An 80′s ballad awash in happy nausea:

Remember that Alvin and The Chipmunks classic? Well, put it through the magic of seasonal depression, Burton-esque nightmares, and my own boredom and you get this:

These are a collection of quick demos compiled on September 30, 2009. They represent songs in-progress, and so they may be unfinished and are most definitely unpolished. Other than that, I make no excuses. Enjoy.

- *Flutters Eyelashes*
The *Flutters Eyelashes* compilation has finally rolled off the press and into the anxious hands of yours truly. It has a nice heft in my hands, despite its minimalist manufacturing. There is just so much talent packed into this tiny bit of silicon, and to think it’s free is really exciting. There’s nothing to come between these amazing bands and potential fans- I’m confident there will be plenty of connections across the Atlantic to come of this album.
Anyway, if you’re wondering where to get one, they’ll be in local Austin record shops soon. I have to wait for the bulk of the production to arrive (I only got a few samplers), have some folding parties (yeah, it’s DIY or DIE just like the old indie days), and then I’ll be shuffling them into End of An Ear, Waterloo, Cheapo’s, and lots of other locals. Don’t look for these in any of the big boxers- you’ll be sorely disappointed. This is a community building effort, not a commodity.
If you’re not in Austin, the producer of this fine compilation has given permission to share the tracks online- and since I did the artwork, I’m more than happy to provide that as well. If you’re so inclined, feel free to download the tracks to burn, and the PDF of the case to print and fold (instructions can be found here). Of course, all work therein is copywriten and any profit coming from the distribution of the compilation is completely out of the question.
