Born in Maine, during the harshest winter storm of the 1980s, Preston got used to the isolation and oppresive cold that could define Northern weather. After growing up in the beautiful town of Kennebunk, he moved down to Georgia to pursue a degree in audio engineering. When he found the school to be more corrupt than it was worth, he dropped out and drove up the East Coast, landing in the backyard of a friend on Martha’s Vineyard.
After living on his own for a number of years at such a young age, Preston inevitably broke the bank. He then moved back to Maine which, after living on his own for a number of years, seemed more oppresive than its winters. That’s when the heralding call of New York City piqued his interest.
Preston lived in Queens for a little over three years, meeting fine people and eventually starting a band with a few coworkers. That band, Preston Demands, survived and thrived until Preston got the itch to move to Austin, Texas to realize a change of pace and community. He’s been happy in Austin since then, noting it’s a place where the feeling of his home town is able to coincide with the metropolis of a larger city.
